Fortepiano

Museum Franz Xaver Gruber Memorial House in Hochburg-Ach
Location Hochburg-Ach

Franz Xaver Gruber was supposed to become a weaver like his brothers, but the musical talent of the young lad soon became apparent. With enormous effort, his teacher and the priest finally persuaded his father to agree to foster the boy’s talent. After much hesitation, the father gave his permission for the boy to take up an apprenticeship as pianist and organist with director of the parish choir Hartdobler in Burghausen. The fortepiano on which Gruber played his first exercises is on loan from the town of Burghausen.
